History of the temple

Humcha padmavati Devi temple is built by Jinadatta Raya.  It was built in the 8th century.  He was the Jain prince from Mathura.  He came from Northern India with an idol of Devi Padmavati.  Jinadatta raya not only built the temple of Humcha.  He also founded the kingdom in Humcha.  Santharas founded by Jinadatta Raya split into two branches.  One is in Kalasa and the other one is Shimoga district.  Santharas built many Jain temples and they are the main person to spread Jainism.

About the temple

Humcha padmavati Devi temple is located in Humcha, Shimoga district, Karnataka, India.  It is nearest to Ripponpet.  The main deity in the temple is Devi Padmavati.  This is a holy place for the Jains because there are many Jain temples in Humcha and donated by many peoples.  There is a lake which never dries up.  The Jinadatta Raya the founder of the temple donated a village for Abisheka for idols.  Vikrama Santha built Gudda Basadi and donated Lord Bahubali idol.  Mahamandaleshwara Chandrayas donated to Bhattaraka.  He donated in 1048 A.D.  Most of the idols were built by Bhattaraka.  There are many temples, idols and inscriptions are here.

Festivals celebrated at the temple

There are three main festivals in this temple.  The celebrated Ratha Yatra for Devi padmavati.  Devi Padmavati is placed on the Chariot and pulled.  Another festival is celebrated in the month of March.  The festival moola nakshatra.  Navaratri is also celebrated in that temple.
